I think the reason is that if the lid warps the metal to metal seal wouldn't seal anymore and cause the water inside the PC to partially evaporate at the moment and cause a spill out of the hot fluid from the pot.

I've cooled my Mirros 22qt. and a smaller one in hot water for close to twenty years without a problem. If your going to cool quicker than recommended just use commonsense don't go throwing a hot PC in a snowbank :wink: The hot water cool down works, as well as a fan blowing directly on the PC. Now understand this is only my personal experience when I've been in a hurry, I'll always recommend letting things cool down naturally. I always do my PCing the day before I plan on inoculating bc patience is still a virtue in this hobby :wink:
