ok, heres the deal, im trying to upload the files to my server for my new website.
after trying all day still couldnt get a connection ( i use ftp surfer )
since i ordered my hosting account friday, i just assumed they hadnt set it up yet because of the weekend.
after i chatted with tek support for the longest time, they had me manually enter the ftp login info into the clients browser, and i got instant access.
i have 2 account with this host, so i KNOW i had my ftp set up correctly.
ok, now so im in.......
i upload my files. a complex cgi script, but hey its cgi, no database, so its fairly simple....
errors out the ying yang!!!!!!
i reinstalled the script several times, went over all pertinant files time and time again........ i still cant get this dam script to run.
then i think, hmmmmmmmm my ftp sucked before, maybe ITS the cause of the script not running.... it had even got 2 errors when uploading the index file.
lol back to my original question......... whats a good FREE ftp clients??
sorry but i just had to vent ....... been a frustrating afternoon

coffeecup software has a nice ftp client, free for 30 days, but cracks and serial #s are easy to find...

you can get the trial version and keep using it though. it just bugs you after 30 days just like what they said for the other ftp client. and there are cracks around too, but they're not necessary.

How about the ftp client built into windows? for basic stuff it works just fine, course you have to go to DOS window and actually type stuff.

Best free one IMHO, is ws_ftp le.
it's like 800k (approx), very simple to setup and use. I'll host it so you don't have to go through the registration process:
http://www.rit.edu/~rcz9769/files/ws_ftple.exe
enjoy. Just be sure to tell it you're a student, using it from home, and it's completely free.

You could also steal cars without ever having to pay for insurance or gas. Does that make it right?

Click Start, then Run, then type "ftp" and press enter.
It can handle anything, as long as you know how to use it.

If you are running Windows, and Explorer, you already have a free FTP client. It's super simple to use. Let's say your ftp address is 9.9.9.9 . Type this into your address bar.
ftp://9.9.9.9
Now click "File" way at the top left, and in the dropdown click "Log in as".
See? It looks like a "My Computer" folder page. You can copy and paste, or drag and drop, to and from other folders.
If you want to get cute, you can skip a step. Let's say that your login name is chromecrow.
ftp://chromecrow@9.9.9.9
It will ask for your password.
This also works in Opera and Firefox, but not in Netscape. Macs are probably out too. Not sure about XP. I'm running 98, and quit using other clients when I figured this out.

IE I believe is the only browser that supports uploading. Firefox and the others just handle it as a directory listing.
