Karo and WBS
    #3214222 - 10/04/04 04:19 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all. I was thinking of adding some Karo to the water i'll be using to soak my WBS in. Here's my thinking...

Not only will the Karo be soaked into the WBS because it'll part of the water, but it will aid in germinating the endospores present, and hopefully making it easier to kill when i PC. When ever i use Karo i usually don't measure, just add a dab or a splash of it, but if you all think there's something wrong with this, please say so. I'm really looking for the fastest, easiest way possible to make cakes to be cased.

I don't think that it would hurt, per se. If it didn't change any other characteristics of the grain, such as making it stickier (which it could very well do), then it should be ok. coffee would work too

Oddly enough I to had the same idea tonight while simmering, so I dumped in some karo. It did not seem to make the WBS stick together any more than normal. My only fear is that when I take it out of the PC it will have the same problem that you get from PCing karo water for to long. Guess I'll see in a few weeks. I also plan on doing one with coffee and one with normal water for comparison. Using a brand of WBS (Scotts) that has corn in it so I have to do a normal water one due to no basis for the time study.

Jars are sorta greasy now... i haven't checked them in a few days and i'm going to give them a few more. The last time i pulled them out they left a greasy sorta residue on the sides of the jars, so we'll see what they do.

That was an exact quote of what my cat just wrote in the litterbox
