death
    #3212115 - 10/04/04 01:46 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

not only do I not fear my death anymore, I await it with an anticipation of the ultimate experience..... I only hope it may not be prolonged and torturous, but if it shall, I will accept it with the ultimate understanding

You only get one death, and it's the last thing you'll ever do. Make it count.

To not fear death is one thing, but to see it in the same light as an entheognic experience is naive. If it is the "ultimate experience" then those who deal out death are actually benefactors doing their victims a favor. To become so focused on death is to deny your gift of life. It gives the illusion that life is unimportant and that your precious time here can be easily wasted as if it meant nothing. Do not fear death, but LIVE.

No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

I don't know about that. Personally I think we have all been around forever and if we could remember our past deaths we would get pretty sick of the repetition. Death is amazing from the point of view of us living and while we are dying, but is nothing special in the grand scheme of things.

I'd also like to add that there are two types of fear of death: functional and neurotic. If you had no functional fear of death, you would likely be dead by now, as you wouldn't look both ways when crossing the street, wouldn't care about walking off a cliff, wouldn't avoid dangerous areas, etc. It's only the neurotic fear of death that we should learn to overcome.

On a side note, Freud believed that every fear was a subconscious desire, so therefore every person secretly desires death. Of course, many of Freud's ideas were later proven to be false, so it wouldn't surprise me if this too was false, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Read the part of my post where I mention functional fear of death. If you had no fear of death, you would be dead by now. Simple as that.

If it's not for a selfish reason, then it's likely that it is not death itself which you desire, but rather the outcome of your death.

I wouldn't say it's the ultimate experience. It seems to be of such significance only because it's the closing act of the human experience. If you still think it's the ultimate experience, you should attempt to gain acess to a centrifuge... nothing like a few head trips induced by blood draining from the brain.
