little light brown hairs??
    #321056 -

I have one last cake (hawaiian from PF) still standing and producing a couple little shroo every once and awhile. My question is can I try to case it now? Or should I just let it RIP. I had some problems with temp and humidy when it was first birthed so I don't think it produced its potential. The temp/humd is pretty stable and for my conditions about as good as I can get them at 80 degrees and 85% RH. I fan about 3 x a day. Sometimes I mist because the humd falls (I live in a very dry environment) I did notice a little patch of very small little tan or light brown hairs?!? Is this a sign of contaim. or of the cake being done?

Thanks for your help

BTW Still waiting on my PF jars to fully colonize first set is 18 days old, second set is 25 days old. Any suggestions???

Thank you for your reply.
That is what I though but because of its rough start to life I figured that maybe I could give it some pleasure by casing it just to see what would happens? Any suggestions on the little brown hairs??-that is the best way I can describe them.
Or the slow colonizing PF cakes?

Thanks

What size jars are your pfs that are not colonized? What is your temp?
Did all you innoculation points germinate? Do they smell sour?
Those little brown hairs are probably some kind of contaminate that is setting in.
After them pf cakes are spent they usually will start showing signs of contamination because the mycelium
to weak to fight off contaminates. Good luck

1/2 pint jars
temp is 80
they smell VERY good
Yes 4 spots were innoculated
the PF cakes seem ok - aside of the slow colonization
Mostly it is the Hawaiian cake that I am worried about. Thank you for your response

everything sounds good,
I think I would just be patient with the PF's.
It just seems to be taking a little longer than it should.
good luck friend

according to PF slow colonising is usually from being too dry or packed too tight

dry could be the case but I made sure I packed them very loosely.
any suggestions on maybe birthing them early - they are about 90% colonized and have slowed down just this last week or so.
Thanks
