well i have a perilite tupperware chamber, 1 part perilite, 1/3 parts water, yet the humidity will not top 75. i have a reptile hygrometer, perhaps this is not a good guage? i am not sure. the cakes have been siting in there for three days in this crap climate. what is going on? the temp is low, probably anywhere between 60-70, mayber lower a few nights. is this the reason? should i just mist?

thanks for any input.

if theyre colonizing with myc. you want them at about 80 to just slightly over 80 degrees (i think something like 86 was optimal, but remember that they produce some of their own heat, so a little under this temp is best) this added heat should increase the humidity a bit, even during fruiting the temp should be around 70-75. i had trouble with my humidity so i sealed off my lid with saran wrap, this helped increase humidity a bit too, just make sure to not completely seal off the chamber. you'll but remember with less air exchange youll have to fan more often (but not too much because fanning will remove humidity too) just find a good balance that feels right...

Buy something in a glass jar, I buy V8 juice. Then get a 50 watt fish tank heater. Empty the glass jar, rinse, and fill with water and a cap full of H202. Put the heater in the jar with a balloon over the top of the jar or rubberband a baggie over it to keep the water from evaporating. I have one of these in my incubator and in my shelf grow system to keep temps up.
