using colned to honey water for PF tek?
    #3209710 - 10/03/04 03:24 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

making the pf cake with only half the water content... sterilizing and then innoculating the rest of the water content with honey tek solution?

or would that not turn out that great? only reason i see why not is not getting the water content in the jar eavenly through out the substrate but that shouldn't really be an issue right? cuz the verm will suck up the rest of the water eventualy... or wont it?

Wouldn't it be easier to use the required water content and then just shoot up the jars with 1cc of honey water?

The water content wouldn't be right in the jars. More would usually equal faster colonization. You could shoot up each jar with 4cc's if you want.

It seems likely that you could add all the ingredients dry and bake the jars at 350?F for a couple hours to sterilize, then inject all the water. The biggest thing to worry about is probably burning up the seal in the lid.

If it worked it would probably be fully colonized within a week.

would you say it's worth a try?

as i see it making honey water for loads of pf cakes is pretty easy...
you can use one big jar (though i guess big ass syrenges would be required for less contamination probabilety...)

as for burning the substrate... that's why i'm thinking about using half the amount of water...

also it might prove to be even better then using straight water right?
becouse the water it self has some nutriants for the mycilium...

i would test this my self if i had the space to do it but for now it's just a thought for me... i just wanted to feedback becouse apart from the problame of not getting the substrate in balance (which might not be a problame at all) i dont see why this wouldn't be common practice!

I don't understand why you can't just make the jars correctly then use honey water as inoculant. The whole point of using live mycelium is the faster colonization times. How would changing the water content quicken the process?

here is something to think about... suck the mycelium suspension into the syringe,
stand it on the plunger for a couple of hours, all it to settle out and push some
of the remaining water out, innoculate the jars with the concentrated stuff.

1 shot into the center, 1/4-1/2cc of innoculant and your water should be in a safe level.... let the mycelium settla to the bottom and concetrate it in the jar first and you'll save lots of time

I think that's a better idea than using totally dry jars.

If you start with totally dry jars you're going to need more than a 10cc syringe full for each jar. Injecting that much would definitely cause consistency to be an issue.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..."
