mycelium on AGAR
    #3206480 - 10/02/04 10:53 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Does the mycelium in the petri dish have to be able to breathe?
I sealed it with normal kitchen foil because this was also recommended
in a cultivation book of mine and it is cheaper than parafilm.
Is it too dangerous not to wrap them, just leave them so they can breathe, or do they not have to breathe?

You need to get some parafilm. at twenty bucks for a 250 foot roll, it costs less than 5 cents to wrap a petri dish. That isn't expensive. Parafilm will allow gas exchange, while preventing contaminant spores or bacteria from entering.

"Cling Wrap" works excellent if you cut of the last inch of the roll and use that to wrap around the of the petri dish Cling Wrap is gas permeable and will allow your dish to breath. I've also placed them in ziplocks to keep them out of contams way.

you can take cling-wrap and wrap em' up. i've heard of many people cutting 1-2" off of a cling-wrap tube to use just for dishes.
