Humidity
    #3206930 - 10/02/04 02:07 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I need to raise the humidity in my fruiting chamber. It is only at 80%! I am currently using approx. 3 1/2 inches of perlite with 2 1/2 inch of water on the bottom for humidity. I mist a couple times a day, it does not raise humidity. Is there any way I can raise the humidity without useing a humidifier?

The perlite tek calls for 2in perlite and 1in water or 1/2 and 1/2.
Can also add a air pump with air stone.Think you need 1/2 and 1/2 to get proper wicker efect.

Good Luck

Sorry for the confusion. 2in. perlite 1 in. water. You should have 1 3/4 in. of water in your set up with that much perlite.

you may want to just increase the temp a bit too, just slightly, just an idea to help increase evaporation and overall humidity.

The airstone under the perlite was an excellent idea  I always recommend water depth at half the depth of the perlite (2in. perlite works great) for best results. Increasing temp will raise RH levels not so much because of evaporating more but because warmer air holds more moisture  You just don't want to raise it above 80F. if possible for fruiting. Before raising thye temp out of op0timum (74-77F.) I would definitely recommend doing the airstone thing in your water layer  GL You got some great answers in this thread good work guys!

Outta curiosity, how long do you generally have the airstone/pump on for? I don't quite get that.

Honestly, fuck an air pump.

Get an ionizing humidifier.

Hmm, alright. I'd think that having it on 24/7 would make it 100%+ humid though, and that's just no good. How big is your terrarium and what pump do you use?

You are assuming it would be 100%, don't. If by some chance your cakes/casings don't like the added RH then simply go to 30on/30off plain and simple. GL

Hmm, alright. After I get my pump/stone, I'll go out and get a 30min programable time switch. Thanks.
