food coloring in substrate...
    #3207877 - 10/02/04 07:35 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

i was curious about using food coloring to color the mushrums...

my idea was to add food coloring to the substrate and dunking water to possibly give the mushrums a colored tint  :mushroom2:(a mix of purple and lime greens would be awsome imo) does anyone know if this would or would not work? possible problems would be that the fruit absorb none of the color, or the fruit would not like some of the ingredients in the food coloring and not grow, deform, etc... if anyone could help out this would make an awsome experiment i think. also to take into consideration is that each color is made from different ingredients...

It seems to me that if you wanted colored mushrooms it might be better to make some tea using colored water. Although it would be very cool to have crazzzyy colored shrooms growing around.

Id think that using food coloring in the water you put in the substrate and the water you mist with would have some kind of coloring effect. Just have to make sure that there's nothing in the food coloring that might mess with fruiting or contaminate your crop or something.

All in all it would be a cool experiment. I'm curious to see your results.

I recall this being mentioned about a year ago, and yes it does work, slight color change and no damage done. It was also mentioned that you can put vanilla extract in it to add flavor. They had also mentioned a few other flavors like peperment that worked to. You can try different ones untill you get one that works best for you.

FLOVORS TOO!!! haha,,, wow,,, i would think that they wouldnt absorb flavors, but i gotta try it, if only you could get them to be sweet too,,, maybe you could spray em with concentrated sugar water before drying... honestly though im mostly interested in the coloring,,, and youve got me excited for my next grow...
