This guy I know just visited a spot where the Amanitas usually appear this time of year, and came across something unusual. He spied a very large mushroom amongst a patch about twenty yards away and walked over to take a look. From afar, the mushroom was impossible to ID because the cap was upturned and only the white gills were showing. As he approached, the red top of the cap, peppered with white, came into view. He stopped in his tracks, kind of stunned by what he had found, and then proceeded to pick the largest Amanita muscaria he has ever seen. The cap diameter measures 9". Sorry, but he just had to have me share this here.

Ok. That's cool. Still don't understand why anyone would want to put themselves though the hell that Amanitas induce... But to each his own.

If sweating, delerium, nausea, and vomiting is your cup of tea, I think you're a little bit weird, but more power to ya.

Given how much people seem to get into the whole nausea and vomiting thing, it's a wonder that Ipecac hasn't taken over the recreational drug market. It's cheap, available at grocery stores, and free of other side effects. Best of all, it's *legal*.

Mr. Night_Soil, I have spoken one on one with a *lot* of people who have tried them. I have met exactly _one_ person who claimed to actually have enjoyed their experience. More than a hundred other people all have told me that it was unpleasant and they would never do it again. I suspect you're one of the "true believers", in which case nothing I could possibly say would matter. A lot of people every year get sick enough from them to go to an emergency room - a very unpleasant place. Yeah, I know, the standard response is that "they did something wrong", usually that they weren't "prepared correctly". The real reason I take the opportunity to write one of these rants from time to time is the hope that somebody who hasn't yet convinced themselves to be a "true believer" will read it and think twice. For the "true believers" I mostly hope they keep the dosage low enough to avoid any serious medical issues.

This is the beginning of "experimental" preparations for this guy I know. However, he feels that he is in a good place to try this now and is more or less ready. Unpleasant or not...I'll let you know on his behalf :smirk:. Thank you.
