The running through the sprinklers thing is a lie. It came out of a movie. I don't remember the name. And It is possible to perm-fry. Called flashbacks dumbass. Some people (like me, off of one trip) get them continuously.

You are misinformed. Hallucinogen Persisting Perceptual Disorder (292.89), is not all that uncommon and is a terrible condition. Unrelenting visuals makes functioning very difficult for those afflicted. As to induced mental illness, Hallucinogen-Induced Psychotic Disorder, With Delusions (292.11) and Hallucinogen-Induced Psychotic Disorder, With Hallucinations (292.12) can, has and does land people in hospitals. I have known people, personally and professionally who precipitated transient psychotic episodes with psychedelics. I have experienced abberant and pathological states myself in 30 years of use. LSD was discovered by a Swiss biochemist named Albert Hofmann, with whom I have had personal contact, not "the government." Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, East Hanover, NJ branch was in sight of the house I grew up in. Millions of blue hits left that building in what was probably an experiment of sorts by the US government (whenever I made deliveries there as a kid the guards would say "have a nice trip."). The negative impact on consumerism and materialism was reason enough to consider LSD a serious danger to the American way of life. Tripping, in the common use of the word, does not indicate a 'permanent' move to a state of mystical enlightenment and may hinder a true arrival in such a condition. Tripping usually means a state of "inebriation" (to use Dr. Hofmann's term), and for a lot of people, just carefree, stoned, non-productive on all levels, or merely entertaining. Dr. Hofmann's own take on its use is strictly for the enhancement of prayer and meditation. Want documentation? Read 'LSD: My Problem Child."

Of course your in a state of inebriation if you take a drug.. I don't beleive use of psychedelics can induce such permanent 'inebriation' at all. It can trigger other disorders that have not yet surfaced in particular individuals. I don't feel it would cause any harm to a 'normal', 'well rounded' individual. You don't get stuck in trips.. If you did, then I, more then anyone, should be halucinating out of my mind right at this very moment! :-P

It is not a matter of belief. This is clinical information based upon compiled case histories. The inebriation does not continue, the triggered pathological aspects continue.

hydro, you are a very lucky man/woman to own a copy of that sacred book :) have you seen the going price for even a paperack copy thru bibliofind!
also, the US government did use LSD for mind control experiments, ecstasy too! hell even the nazi's were using synth mescaline on patients at dachau! if you do not (want) to believe me then check out this book:

The CIA created LSD in the 50's or 60's as a secret weapon, although the purpose of this weapon escapes me. They would test it in mental hospitals and such. The author Ken Kessey ("One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest) was paid seventy dollars a session just to take some LSD and let attendents at a mental hospital record what happened to him. Eventually, the drug's hallucinogenic effects became apparent and it was discarded as a means for the CIA to whatever it was thinking of doing. But during the time of its testing, LSD made its way into the hands of the counter-culture. Whole cummunities were formed on the basis of the new enlightenment it brought. This is around the time that the phrase "Are you on the bus?" was formed, for those of you who know what I am talking about.
It is possible, actually, to be tripping forever, yes, even when the drug inevitably wears off. This is because of what it does to your brain. Like with ecstasy, you feel like the drug is relaxing you, but really its intensifying things and speeding them up. Your neurons fire back and forth across your brain all the time, sending messages to different parts of your body to do certain thing, like see, or hear, or walk, or what have you. But under the influence of something like X, or LSD, or shrooms, the neurons in your brain fire back and forth so rapidly that sometimes your brain can't take it and it shuts down, albiet, you "black out" or collapse (I just learned this after a recent first-hand experience). It is possible for your neurons to be over-worked, shall we say. I don't know the correct terminology, but they can "burn out". Your brain can be so confused that it might not be able to find its way out of the fog that the neurons firing at such high frequency created. Thus, one may not be tripping forever, but the way you feel on a bad trip... where your thoughts repeat and you can't put music in the background...yeah, that can be permanent. So beee careful!

LSD-25 was 'discovered' by Albert Hofman which is a very interesting tale itself but I won't get into it. If you wish go to Erowid.org and find out the truth.

About that bacteria on the eye thing, is that anything that little black dot thing you get sometimes, and you can't look directly at it, because whenever you try it keeps moving in the direction that you're trying to "capture" it in, I don't know if this happens to everyone else, but I pretty sure that it's not caused by psychadelics, because that's happenned to me since I was a kid and I don't *think* my parents fed me any halucinogens as a child.
And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself...

The lines or dots that you see passing over the surface of your vision are the blood vessels in your eye and the red blood cells passing through them, respectively. Under normal situations you are not aware of them (it wouldn't be much use to your survival) but certain frequencies of light and under certain circumstances you can see them.
I did this in a physiology lab at uni. By shining (a narrow beam of) blue light into your eye it is possible to see them quite clearly. It's very normal. I'd be more worried if you didn't ever see it.

there also seem to be loose bits of tissue (small clumps of dead cells) that detach from the retina and float about in the "humours" (aqueous & vitreous), and as they pass through the field of vision (especially noticiable when gazing at a brightly-lit blank field (like a blue sky)---you can change the direction of drift by moving your head just right...)
so-called "phosphenes" ? or is that those patterny things you see when you press gently on you closed eyes... ?

It's funny, because last time I went to the optical clinic, I asked why I was seeing some brack dots, we'll all that is is just very small debris floating in the liquid part in your eyeballs thus making some sort of shadow in the back of the eye, where the image is percieved.

I agree. Poor Berrett. He got fucked over from life, and he was a genius. To much pot can even fuck you up. Iv'e been there. You get lazy,, with no motivation. That is not something they say to keep you from using it. It's true, iv'e been there before. Now I don't smoke as much pot, and I can function. To much acid can, and will fuck you up. My freind has done acid 6 times and he's not bad. He's a very smart guy too. He said that he has watched some of his freind's slowly get fucked up over time as they put to much of that shit into they're bodies. He said that over time, he didn't even know them anymore. He said it was quite sad to watch his freind's fuck themselves up over time. I agree it would be a terrible expereince. Watching your freind's get more and more distant, until you hardly even know them. That's what Pink Floyd said in there interview about Syde.

Too much of anything will fuck you up. And yes, 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond' was a dedication to good ol' Barrett. 'Crazy Diamond' was a nick name they used to call him back in the day. In an interview, Waters I think, said Sid came into the studio while they were recording that song and asked when he was up to sign the vocals! :-( Sad story behind that all. Also, a lot of things in the movie 'The Wall' portray Barrett as well. Alls I really listen to is good ol' Floydy, so I kinda know my shit! hehe ;-)
