non-active mushroom photo.

Found this right outside my backdoor. For me it keys out to conocybe




Habitat: woods/ground
Gills: orange brown, attached.
Stem: thin, fragile, white.
Cap: 1-1.5 cm in diameter, orange, dry, also very fragile.
Spore print: rust brownish

species would probably be impossible given the info provided.

Conocybe is likely. Galerina is also possible. There are also a couple tiny satellite genera near Galerina that are also possible.

I always worry that my keys might be missing some of those small genera or sub-genera that you mentioned. A lot of the species found in my area are a challenge to ID but if it were easy it would be no fun!
