heavily fruitfly contammed flat - what to defeat them

hey there! ol' ohmatic moved to another flat, with some nice ppl this time and a acceptable room size this time, but enaugh of that. the flat is heavily fruitfly contammed due to the old fruit lying around, some already rotting and flies seem to have their "base" somewhere in some old fruit oO. anyway, for a fruiting chamber, would it be enough if the chamber would be surrounded, like, mantled with a very fine polyester mesh with a zip for working in the chamber? once had fruitly contamination, never want to experience that agarin. peace ohm *Edit* ofcoz i will first of all throw all old fruit away and clear the flat, it will look good to the other roommates aswell

I would actually probably buy an insect bomb and throw all that fruit away. Put up some fly tape in your growing room as well, and then bomb the house when no one is around. I'm unsure as to whether this will hurt your grow, so I'd suggest closing it up nice and tight before hand.
Serious situations require serious correction steps and I think that insect bombing is a good first step in combat.

A good way to keep them down is an open bottle quarter full of fruit juice. Flies go in and drown. Simple. Change the bottle every couple of days, or it will start to get nasty....
Fumigation would work too, but those things scare me!
And of course, get that fruit out!

They're normally not attracted to the sticky fly strips. I solved this problem by putting a little salsa on them. It should be cheaper than wasting fruit juice.
Their lives are so short, if you remove anything they can reproduce on, they'll be gone in a couple days anyway.

I've got a strange way to get rid of any flying pests in the house. I have a few pet house spiders that make quick work of any flying pest. I put the poisonous spiders outside but leave the non-poisonous alone and haven't had any problems with fruit flys since. Well for that matter no mosquitos, regular flys either.

today started to clean out the flat, the other 4 ppl living here responded very positive to me doing all the shitwork ...
oh well, i guess i also traced down their motherbase.
some old melon that basically seems to be their hq has now been firmly crushed in the trash compactor - hasta la vista fruitflies.
ill keep the flat clean and tidy and within some time the problem should solve itself aight?
peace ohm

IME, the flies that hit mushroom substrate aren't the same that hit old fruit. I've had nasty fungus fly problems in the past. . .got rid of them in the ways described above, but he damn things took roost in my potted plants! They can lay low in potting soil until the next whiff of food comes around. I think you're doing everything right, just keep in mind they're sneaky little fuggers. Has anyone actually seen real fruit flies [drosophila] pestering mushrooms? The ones that I've seen look like a cross between a fruit fly and a mosquito. . .they 'walk' very well Good luck with the decon!
