stunzii I.D. Help
    #3206181 - 10/02/04 09:10 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I belive I have found a patch of Stunzii's on a stump In Germany.
The spore print is a dark purple, but there is a lookalike on this site in the 'poisonous lookalike section'. They have not bruised blue
however a kind of seefoam greenish brown. they have no bitter taste like the lookalikes supposably have but they are ridden with a strong odor. I cannot post a photo with this although I know it would help.
Does anyone know any other forms of I.D. I can use to possibly determine the nature of this fungus?
Thanks, E.

Have you tried looking for "Fly Catcher" mushrooms? Some of those have pugnant odors like rotten fleshey. They use that odor to attract insects for some reason... Propigation, Carnivoreism?

that is your first clue.  they grow in highly manicured and watered grass.

there are many pictures on this site, search back a few pages and you should find mj's blue ringers (=P. stunzii) pictures.

i dont know if they could or could not grow in germany, but i can assure you they dont grow on stumps.

good luck

Amanita's are sometimnes in Europe referrred to as Fly killer. The Siberians and Baltic State peoples use to and some still do, catch flies to kill by powdering Amanita muscaria and mixing it with sugar. A fly would land on the d sugur and eat some and go to fly away and fall into a stupor and fall tot he gtround and thent he person inthe room could swat the fly and i kill it. OR people use top believe the fly would die after eatingt the shroom.

Truth of the matter is that the fly is high and falls becasue he is inebriated, Not dead. Try to read the FAQ about these shrooms before commenting on the id or use of them.

mj

They were never calledd Fly cathchers.
