When to birth, when to case?
    #320574 - 05/18/01 11:13 PM (23 years, 8 months ago)

Hello everyone!

I've got a few jars of EQ that have just become completly innoculated. How long should I wait now that they are fully innoculated before I birth them? I'm going to case them so I don't need to wait for pinheads to appear.

thanks!
Grdnby

First off, they're not "fully inoculated" they're fully colonized. They should be completely white. If you case them you'll have to wait an extra week or so for the mycelium to colonize the casing. If you birth the cakes however you'll get mushies sooner. I did one jar using the birth method, and the others I cased. I just put up a post titled "first time (pic)" I'm still new but it's so fun to finally see the "fruit's" of your labor.

thanks havinfun!

Ok, so they're fully colonized, totally white. I've cased before (this is my second grow) but was kinda lazy and sloppy about it. Hoping to do better this time around.

I know what you mean about "seeing the fruits of you labors..." It's soo much fun watching 'em grow and then to consume that which you produced. IMO, it makes the trip much more meaningful!

just my 2cents,

Grdnby, after your jars are 100% colonized wait another week before taking them out, give the mycelium time to get stronger. just because they reach 100% on the outside, doesn't mean they are fully on the inside, so wait 7 more days past 100%, you will have a better flush this way. and it will take another week are so to colonize the casing layer.
