Muscle Relaxers and Pain Killers?
    #3203632 - 10/01/04 01:01 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

My husband has been taking percocet and cyclobenzaprine for his back that he messed up yesterday. Would that in any way affect his trip tonight? I appreciate any help.

Yeah, some people like to take muscle relaxers and pain killers along with their trip. I, on the other hand, think that they are a waste. They put you closer to unconsciousness but that in turn makes you trip out more, you just might pass out or not remember any of the trip. Again, I think he should abstain from the medication if he is going to trip or else take a low dose just to take the pain away. It can add a dimension to the trip to add the pills but if he just takes what is prescribed there should be no special effect.

Mushrooms stimulate your system..taking muscle relaxers might have a nice effect in taking some of the anxiety or anxiousness away. I would keep the dose pretty small though, it's always a risk mixing drugs.

You have nothing to worry about with the muscle relaxer. However, I'd suggest not taking percocet the day of the trip. You don't want that opioid tiredness dumbing down your trip.

So to reiterate, have him take his muscle relaxer (only one muscle relaxer I know of is mildly recreational/psychoactive and Flexeril isn't the one), and if possible, take a small dose or none at all of the percocet.

He already took 2 percocets this morning, but he's sleeping it off as I type.  He hasn't been taking a whole lot of either of them and we still don't plan on tripping for a few more hours. Thanks for all the info guys, I really appreciate it.

i'd be more concerned about the cyclobenzaprine (than the narcotic) --- i think that it is related to tricyclic antidepressants like imipramine, etc...
there may be info over at www.erowid.org or www.lycaeum.org about tricyclics & psychedelics interaction if ya poke around w/tfse...

Not true. It's not a TCA, just a skeletal muscle relaxer.

I reiterate: it's safe.

the percocet might help with the comedown tho I'd stick to a low dose during the trip...I had an acid trip get ruined at the peak from doing E...what an annoying feeling...going from that great third eye feeling to more of an E feeling...it just rolled(no pun intented) right over the acid

I really don't know what will happen with that mix but as long as he dosen't overdue it on the pain killers I really don't think theres any risk...I've never heard of mushrooms becoming dangerous in combination with another drug but I could be wrong

www.drugs.com/cyclobenzaprine.html
& it IS a tricyclic amine, & is related to old-school antidepressants like imipramine (tofranil); & it is used as a muscle relaxant (& it made me feel very wierd after spinal cord surgery several years ago; along with steroids & narcotics, ok --- ick, my head just wasn't screwed on right, hehheh...)

Very well - related to TCAs, like you first said. Apparently I mistook your original reply as 'it IS a TCA'. I've read it is similar in action. Who knows if that includes the action of TCAs that increases the potency of psilocybin, LSD, etc. However, trycyclic antidepressants are not dangerous in conjunction with psilocybin. Somewhat intensifying but not deadly.

Well, we tripped the other night just fine. It was weird though, my husband ended up throwing up not too long after eating the shrooms. I started tripping my ass off and he got nothing. Then, out of nowhere, he started tripping pretty hard and had a great time. He had taken just a little over what was perscribed to him and everything was fine. Again, thanks for all the great info.
