what timer do you use for humidifiers
    #3202475 - 10/01/04 02:39 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I have these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

and I want a timer that can be programmed to turn on every hour for 10 mins

if you see in the above pic... you can add more of the green and red things that go around and push in this something which turns it on/off, is this how you guys do it? there has to be an easier way..

a question about water heaters, do they turn off when its at the right temperature? or is another thing like above needed for this too..?

I use those same ones you have, there really isn't any point in any type of commercial or expensive timer in general for this purpose imo.

are you letting it go for 6 or 12 hours a day then?

or did you buy more of those pins that turn it on/off more often?

I use ones from Home Depot that are similar looking but no things to put on you just push up or down the buttons. I got 2 for 8 bucks and they run my ultrasonics. They work in 30 minute intervals so its 30 minutes on 30 minutes off. Works ok but I have a large setup.

I actually aquired a whole shitload of the tabs for free which was nice, but anyways I have it set to go on for one hour then off for two and so on. I also have this timer that is just a series of tabs, each one represents one hour and you simply push the tab in for it to go off and leave it up to turn your appliance on. I think that this is a much better design because I just hate paying 4$ for a timer and only being able to turn something on and off at 3 points during the day.

A timer like this will do it. Not cheap. Heavy duty rated. It can run a/c to HID lamps with no probs. I've used a bunch of various timers in years gone by where they've all burned out or failed to deliver accuracy. You can set it on 10 minute intervals like what you're planning.

gloom, I'm in Australia so no idea what sells US/Canada side? So go to the hydro shop and you'll get a reliable timer as they do get feedback if they're of repute. You'll pay up to 10 times the price of what you linked to at e-bay if you're buying heavy duty. Timers I use, in USD are about $35 to $40. However, if you're only after small power use (like a fan) with 10 minute on/off increments, then the arlec timers are ok. The pin version can only do 15 minute increments. But they're crap for HID, they just burn out so if you're into recycling your gear to other projects, keep that in mind.

I found the arlec but no description, how many on/off settings does it have per day?

http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_...ble_Time_Switch

I might get that one if I can't find info on the arlec one.

gloom, thats a good timer in the link. It will easily do the job of 10 minute increments per hour as it has 42 settings on/off per day, and you won't need that many settings. As for arlec timers, I know they sell in Australia, but I can't vouch if they're in the US/Canada?

You could save your bux and buy a switch timer like you posted to start with from e-bay. But I suspect that $3.50 e-bay timer is like this one in the pic, it will only go to 15 minute increments on the spin dial.

Looking at that link, sheeeit, you've got a great range of gear in homedepot *drool*. I'd lose myself in that store. The one stop shop. Downunder and you have to go all over the place.

I got one made by timex for about 24.00 dollars at LOWE"S. It has like 25 On and Off settings. It is Digital. You can set it to come on at a time and off at a time, like 25 times. I love it. I have my ultrasonic fogger set to come on ever 3 to 4 hours for 5 to 4 minites. Works well.
