Strange Question:

I guess I have never thought of this, but when casing, or on cakes for that matter: Is it the mycellium on the top layer that produces pins or does that mycellium trigger the "network" below the casing layer to produce the pins? Thanks for insight.

the mycellium triggers the nework below the casing layer to produce the pins and continues as long as you can keep it sterile and as long as there is a food source(grain,dung,etc...)
