straw- to soak or not to soak ? :-)

What do you think. Do you soak the straw for 24 hours before pasturizing or not? I'm gonna be doing straw/dung in eatualive's double tub tek.

Nope. Straw doesn't absorb much water. A long soak, if a soak at all, isnt nessesary. I didn't do any soak, just the pasturization..was pretty wet after that though. Dung should hold the water you need though. Can't say my method works. Theres growth in all my casings but with straw the green could get me anytime...we'll know for sure in a few weeks though.

And if your thinking about it cause thats what you do for grains, its done for grains to germinate endospores to be killed during sterilization. Pasturization is not meant to kill the contams, just beat them down for a little while untill the myc gets to it so you don't do this germination.
