Temperature limit for casings
    #319999 - 05/18/01 08:11 AM (22 years, 10 months ago)

I cased two EQ brf 1/2 jars last night with 50/50. Put in terrarium with perlite and water. Set that on heating pad and cranked it on high. This morning the terrarium was a bit warm, about 90 and maybe even a bit hotter. I didn't have thermometer in yet, so not sure just how hot it got. I know I should have had it on low but I wanted to get it up to temp quickly. Ooops. Are my casings cooked? Or is the mycelium hardy enough to withstand a bit of heat for a couple of hours? Nothing dried out and humidity was good.

On another note, when I opened those jars the smell was amazing. It smelled like a thick forest in the morning with low lying fog, and mushroomy.

Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.

You want it 85 degrees F. The heating pad belongs on top.

He`s colonizing the casing layer, not fruiting. 85 F and cover with saran wrap with a few holes stuck thru.
