I would like to try my hand at cultivating an edible gourmet, and I was wondering what would be the best species to do indoors. Ideally it would nice to have one with similar growth parameters as cubensis since I already have a lot of equipment.
Can anyone recommend from experience??

Think that the easiest are P. pulmonarius - but they need more light and air exchange then the cubensis.

Beware growing pleurotus indoors, if you have anybody with allergies in the house then i would not recommend it because the spores can be highly allergenic.

That depends on the strain - I have a strain that does hardly produce any spores.

Ragadinks-
Do you grow oysters indoors and if so what kind? I have been thinking about setting up an indoor oyster grow...I'd love to hear anything about it. Thanks.

last winter I have grown some indoors since outside it was too cold . you can see some pictures of them in this thread. I think also basidiocarp has grown them indoors in his own growing chamber. But if you do not have a proper growing chamber it is quite difficult to provide enough humidity, light and air exchange.

Thanks bud. I was wondering- you don't perhaps any have oyster cultures in syringes that you might be able to spare, do you? I don't have much for trade but I do have cash. Thanks again for your help, those pictures are nice!

This sounds exciting and I'd like to try. I do a lot of wild sroom hunting and cooking but never tried cultivation. Coul someone give me intructions stating with wild oysters? How do you grow the spawn for inoculating the coffee grounds. How about large puffballs; anyone grow them?

> Coul someone give me intructions stating with wild oysters? You could obtain clean mycelium by either germinating the spores or cloning a piece of tissue on sterile agar (PDYA or MYA). I would recommend cloning them for the beginning.
> How do you grow the spawn for inoculating the coffee grounds. Transfer the clean mycelium under (sterile conditions) to sterilized rye, WBS or corn and when it has fully colonized the spawn you can inoculate the coffee grounds with that.
> How about large puffballs; anyone grow them? Have never heard that someone has grown them indoors, but I know that it is possible to grow the outdoors by simply spreading spores in the fields. The mycelium can be obtained by cloning - with the spores I had bad luck but that was probably my fault.
