Outragous Patch of Amanitas
    #3199470 - 09/30/04 10:17 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Hey,I live in Nw oregon outside of portland.I recenty, discovered a area of land thats Covered in Grove after grove of these Pine trees,Not sure what type of pine,But anyways the groves make tunnels with their over hanging Branches,Ground is mostly a carpet of pine needles, mossy in some areas were sun gets through the Canapy. But through out these "tunnels" Amanita Muscaria is growing in abundance patches that contain upwards of 20 shrooms. Some patches are Dryed out,Some decaying and covered in Mold.I have been there with the Digi. Camera.Idont have the Cables to up load the Pics.So a friend of mine is putting the Pics on cd so I can up load them,Hopfully by thrusday, thrugh out the Land with these groves there are hundreds of these patches containing upwards 10-20 Amanita Muscaria shrooms.

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

Do you pick them or just take pics? If you do harvest any make sure to dry them correctly or grill em stem side up and drink the liquid in the cap.

might be Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa in Georgia... post some pics if possible. The Formosa look very similar only the coloring is more orange or red. They are still just as good to eat tho! =D

first of all there is no "amanita muscaria var."; there are several varieties of Amanita muscaria, denoted by the epithet following the "var." in the name. A. muscaria var. formosa is more or less the same as A. muscaria var. Muscaria [the common deep red variety] except for the color, as they are the same species. there are reports of higher ibotenic acid contents on A. muscaria var. formosa [resulting in a higher likelyhood of strong unpleasant attending symptoms to the intoxication]. heat-drying seems to work well in negating these effects for many people.

i am not recomending consumption of A. muscaria but i would like any who might to be as well informed as they can be [as in consuming any wild mushroom].
