Nighttime Temps

Hey all. My nighttime temperatures in the area I plan to incubate in usually drops below 70. This morning when I woke up it was around 68. My thermom/hygrom has a min/max button on it so I can see the min/max recorded temps since it was last cleared. So far it hasn't dropped below 67, but with fall coming I anticipate cooler nighttime temps. Are these temps unacceptable for incubation? Should I plan on buying a small heater or heating pad? If these temps won't hurt them while they're incubating I wont' worry about it, but if they will and I can keep the temps in an acceptable range, I certainly will.
Thanks!

It takes a lot longer keeping it out of 80-85 degree range. We're talking weeks. Use a tub-in-tub incubator. Just search and find a complete instruction set on how to make one.

Ouch. Looks like I'll be buying that heater. The space is too small for a tub in tub, I've already scoped that idea out. I'll probably end up buying a digital thermostat and hooking a small space heater up to it.

I got the same problem exept the range that mine drops to is about 65 during the night and about 70-75 during the day. If I get one of those reptile heating pads would it hurt the growth if the jars were placed directly on top of the pad. Cause it might get too hot.

leukoism - NO DIRECT HEAT! that's one hell of a way to dry your jars out.
get a little rubbermaid bin or the like and put a folded towel on top of the heating pad, put the bin on that, then another one in the bin. this will spread the heat out so it's not so bad... but make sure to regulate the temperature with a thermometer. the temps will be a few degrees higher on the very bottom of the bin as opposed to the air, so it's a juggling act.figure out what gets you in the incubating sweet spot and you'll be set.
i'm building a tub-in-tub in the next few weeks to get rid of my own heating pad headaches.
