Green patch on the casing layer
    #3196118 - 09/29/04 05:04 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

This is a 70qt tub of straw cased with verm/coir. The straw was spawned with WBS and colonized perfectly with no contamination. The casing mix was sterilized (maybe that was a bad idea?) and applied about 3/4 inch thick. These pictures were taken after it had been patched twice, so the myc is somewhat established in the casing layer.

The green appeared yesterday and isn't very widespread as you can see. Is there any hope for this project?

trichoderma can easlybe contained by covering the infecting colony with backing soda or salt a lot of folks will tell you to dig up the infecting colony then fill in the hole with salt but i dont do that cus trichderma spores are spread very easly so in the proces of trying to dig it up u will be spreading its spores so just cover with backing soda i hear salt works well to but i have never used it . it looks like u all ready have spores on your colony of trich so over the next few days u will probly have ity poping in a few spots on your casing try to spot the tric wile it is still white be for it produces spores and cover with backing soda

after u cover with backing soda mist your casing with bleach water i use one teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water by the way i have been told by a lot of folks that bleach is not good to mist with but i have used it for all my watering with no problems from it if u dont like bleach u dont have to use it for all your waterings but i will tell u this after u cover that colony with salt or soda u will still have some spores on your casing so one good misting will do a good job of lessing the chance of the spores germanating

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll give salt a try since I've got some already. If I understand correctly the green is the trich sporulating. What does it look like before it turns green? If it's white I'd imagine it's damn hard to tell apart from mycelium...
