Strawberry Margarita Pie... get your eat & crunk on!!
    #3195378 - 09/29/04 01:51 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I've made this recipe in my resturant for a while, and I've also made this for weddings/private parties.. goes over GREAT.

Crust:
1 1/4 cup pretzel crumbs
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar

Filling:
1 1/2 cup strawberries, diced
14 oz sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
1/4 cup Tequila or Tequila Cuervo 1800
2 tablespoons Triple Sec (optional)
1 1/2 cup Cool Whip, thawed
(For a stronger alchohol taste, subsitute some of the lime juice and/or some of the milk. You may add up to another 1/4 cup without doing such modifications though)

Combine pretzel crumbs, butter, and sugar, mix well. Press firmly on bottom and up sides of a lightly buttered 9-inch pie pan.
Combine milk, lime juice, strawberries, tequila and triple sec, blend well.

Fold in Cool Whip.

Pour into crust. Place in freezer for four to eight hours. Remove from freezer and let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Garnish with whipped cream or Cool Whip.

Good luck on this one.. I hope one of you makes it and tells me how it went.. believe me... it's insane.

Ooooh but it is. The pretzel crust seems like a bad idea.. crumbly pretzels.. how will they stick together?... they stick very well, the salt on the pretzels compliments the tequila and strawberry so well, you'll freak. For an added bonus, throw in some kiwi and small lime pieces. The ingredients to this pie don't cost too much and it only costs you a little extra pretzel (in which you'll have a lot) and maybe an extra bag of strawberries. When I make this at home, I use cheap tequila, very cheap. Suprisingly it doesn't sacrafice the taste much at all, so don't worry about using the good stuff... frozen strawberies are cheaper too.

this sounds good as hell!

i am gonna try making it, i just have a question on your instructions:
what does "Fold in Cool Whip." mean.

you say to do this before you put the pie in the freezer.
but then you say to garnish with coolwhip after you pull the pie outta the freezer.

im a not good in the culinary arts dept. so excuse me if the answer is obvious.

No problemo'

The Cool Whip as described in the ingredients is "folded" or stirred in with the other pie filling ingredients. Folding usually means, plopping your ingredient into the existing bowl of ingredients and lightly stirring with rubber spatula. Garnishing the pie with Cool Whip requires extra cool whip (in which you should have if you buy a cheap lil tub). You can garnish with sliced strawberries, kiwi and lime if you like too!

14oz of sweetened condensed milk does seem like a bit much but believe me, it adds sweetness and thickness to your pie.. when it freezes, the milk with thicken up and solidify your pie.

Yes, you may add extra tequila. Make the recipe as described, then add your extra tequila and just use common sense.. if it thins up a TON, just put a lil extra Cool Whip in there.. it'll make everything all good. If you've got TOO MUCH mix, just freeze it in little bowls for individual desert pies.. or just when you get the munchies. You can usually make 2 pies very easily with only a little extra ingredients.

I sugguest you ALL try to make this one at least once.. it rules.

8 slices of pie.. and if you have a total of 3/4 C of tequila. Probably about 3/4-1 shot a slice depending on how big you slice er' up, and how decent the tequila is.
