Little black spot on pedro

on one of my pedro's there is a little black spot.. it's almost like the cactus got bruised.. its at the top where new growth is..

there is a spot like that on a pup growing from one of my other cuttings too..

what is it?

It's probably normal. I see that a lot sometimes. If it's firm to the touch then don't worry about it. If it's soft or oozing then you have rot and it should be cut out. When cutting out rot be sure to get it all.

a soft bruise deep tissue bruise? or a solid, dry, flakey, dark spot, on the outermost skin?

If its the second, its very common, I call em cactus freckles....

if its the first, and its getting softer every day, your cactus maybe doomed, and amputation is neccesary... I really bet its the second, common one. otherwise your thread would have the word "HELP!!" somewhere in it.

its a dark spot on the outermost skin, but doesnt have a very different texture than the actual skin.

there seems to be those spots on most new growth on my cacti...

im thinking it was something in the soil..??

I used shultz's cactus soil..
