Pan Subbs
    #3194817 - 09/29/04 10:28 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Well, I did have a big story to go with this but, just before I posted something fucked up. So, anyhow, I found what I believe to be Pan. Subbs. They were clustered together, and the ring on the cap just gave it away, saw some very slight bluing on myc. when I picked them.

Looked Identical to these....thank you MJ

I know there is no way its antillarum or foenisecii because I am pretty familiar with them. Also, If anyone else can point me in the right direction to some SE, central FL, subb finds would be appreciated.

Mabie a search of the hunting forum would turn up some results. Ive seen a lot of them posted here.

Also look for Gumby's pan subb article which is well written and has some picks that he took in the SE.

EDIT: added link for you, hope this helps. http://www.impakt.net/~tyler/subbs/

What were they growing from? What color was the spore print?

Making an identification based only on "they look like the mushrooms in this picture" is an entirely flawed way of IDing mushrooms. All mushrooms vary to some degree, and a lot of mushrooms look very similar to each other(even the deadly ones).

They were growing from some stall shavings(horse manure & sawdust) dump under some trees. Ive been on the look out for them all season, because my horse pastures; the hay, shavings, and horse manure(subbs do to prefer horse. right?) I figured it would be a better habitat for P.Subbs, but cubes kept popping up, in very unusual spots for them. Like, in sod fertilized horse manure, directly from some horse dung, which I believe is pretty rare, also pretty much just popping up in the grass in random places in my yard. There is no way they are either pan. antrilium or foenisecii, they are tons of them around here.
