Are these Libery Caps?
    #3194416 - 09/29/04 02:07 AM (19 years, 6 months ago)

Hey everyone, I'm from BC just wanted to confirm whether or not these are Liberty Caps.  If anyone recognizes these pictures they're from another thread but it was old so I don't think anyone is bothering to look over it.

Anyhow, hope I don't step on any tails.  But if anyone can give me a hand ID'ing these I'd be much appreciated!

Anyone?  Thanks

I found these in medium length shaggy type grass.  They had a liquidy looking nipple on top and if you broke the cap a bit you could peel off a film that reminded me of half cured Jello.  When picked some of them SEEMED to go a bit blue-purple around the margins of the cap, and some of the very base of the stems kind of looked bruised blue.  This could also be a interpretation of a hopeful mind so I hope to hear from you.

Umm, one final note.  The gills did look choclate brown and a bit purple on the edges.  A spore print turned up pretty light so I can't really for sure say it was but it looked somewhere between brown and purple.

 You figure?!  Thanks a lot for the hand!  I had a feeling these were the good ones, they had a feel to them they did....  How certain are you?

Does everyone else agree?

Oh, I hate to sound like I haven't researched this but from what I've read the only real look alikes are Peculliosa or however it's spelled, another active species anyway, and one other mushroom that doesn't bear much resemblence at all and isn't deadly?  If anyone can confirm this it would make me feel a lot better.  Just to make sure I'm not reading things wrong.

If I understood correctly then those are not Your finds in those pictures :smirk:
Well, Your description sounds like Liberty caps, but I can't tell for sure.

Well, it's from another thread that I posted some new pictures of some mushrooms that a buddy and I found but his camera didn't work well... Complicated story! Nonetheless I actually did pick the ones in the pictures.

Anyone else chance an ID?

We should load up on these bad boys this afternoon when i get off work. Before someone else finds the spot, or they get mowed over.
