Yeah, but it`s best to cut away any uncolonized substrate.

or you can just roll the dice: crumble and mix everything together in a plastic bag then transfer to casing chamber... this monkey i know didn't feel like waiting for his cake to colonize on the inside(this happens when you use the 9er tek: if you use spores to colonize you have to wait a little more for the mycelium to grow thru the cake - even tho it looks fully colonized) so he crumbled it up and cased it ... for some reason it wouldn't start pinning till everything was 100% colonized... maybe it was just an isolated incident:D kinda like UFO's! hehehehhehe ... but seriously ... it's a 50/50 chance ... so peace and good luck... i say be patient ...

if you use them as is, the uncolonised substrate has a good chance of contaminating. that is your main threat when attempting to use only a partial colony. I and im sure most people here say, wait it out.

more colonization = more mycelium to case = more/bigger shrooms. ill never understand why people dont wait.
