I've read teks where people use rye grain. So being the smartass I am, decided to jump the gun and use Dark Rye Flour (50%) and 50% brown rice flour. It's be 4 dayz at 80 degrees and I don't see a thing.
Background: newbie. Trying the captain's tapalpa. Used the SCGT formula for the substrate (1verm:.25flour:.25water). Microwave sterilization.

I don't have experience with dark rye flour but my guess is that it will work fine. You just need to be patient. It is normal not to see any growth after just 4 days. Just wait a few more days and I bet you will see growth.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own.

agreed. if after 7-8 days you still see no signs of growth you may have a sterility problem. keep an eye out for any smells coming from the jar if you crack it open slightly and sniff

It has to be organic rye flour and you will probably need to change the water ratio, I did. I had no sucess with it.
I did better with millet flour!
