Cobweb or MYC?
    #3193319 - 09/28/04 10:56 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Say you take out a casing after some of the top colonized, sprayed it with water, and the myc shrunk. Is it cobweb? I mean, pure white shit on the top... but then you spray and it disappears like cobweb would do. Just curious

It shouldn't... but it might. Wait a day or two and see what heppens. Cobweb is grey. If you have seen myc, you should be able to spot the difference. But the dissapearing is odd. Keep an eye on it.

Myc very well gets knocked down when directly sprayed which make it appear to shrink but then you say it disappears? Which is it shrinks or disappears?

if the myc that shrinked was just weak myc poking through the casing layer then it might look disspaerared but it hasnt. check again tomorrow

if it was whispy weak mycellium (the cottony looking kind) it will shrink and seem to disapear with a misting ive seen it happen before.

Same deal when shaking a fully colonized jar of grain, it indeed seems to disappear!

yup exactly. the first time that happend to me i got really paranoid that i did something very wrong. like shook too hard and killed all the mycellium, then i go back check it out the next day and it seemed to come back with a vengence i was extremely surprised.

Shrinks a _considerable_ amount... but then after the initial spraying where it shrinks, the white that remains may be sprayed many times without shrinking at all. It doesn't regrow but doesn't shrink after the initial spraying. Any conclusions from that?

Ya stop spraying it directly your "matting" the mycelium! It's not a good thing and if kept up will lead to overlay conditions. with absolutely no pins :frown:

Just wanted to see if it would shrink more. So I guess by that responce it wasn't cobweb?

I don't know if it's mycelium or cobweb, but it's way too early to be spraying it. The casing layer needs to be colonized a lot more before fruiting is initiated, in my opinion.

Pinning initiation timing is one of the most productive arts you will ever learn! Here is the low down, However you do it, optimally you'll want your casing evenly colonized by the time the mycelium switches from vegetative growth to generative growth in order for this to take place you need to initiate sooner than you think  Now listen up heres where you'll take it to the next level. Substrates need to be PERFECTLY level, ok as level as you can get them  Next you need to get that casing thickness just as even, this allows for a very even casing run or at least it gives you the best chance. Now some people swear but not patching well I'm here to tell you patching is very important not in the sense so much as pinning is concerned but in the profile of your flush you see early breakthroughs can cause premature pinning in thoughs areas the pins will develop sooner taking energy from the rest of the flush resulting in a few larger shrooms and many smaller shrooms, big deal you say, secret it lowers your possible yields every time! Anyway don't patch the very first break through you see, give it 1 day then if it doesn't look like it's coming up evenly patch those 1-4 areas lightly then mist it down nice and moist (I just love the sound of that!) And initiate pinning immediately, Now this method requires optimal conditions for optimal results! In otherwards If your not incubating at 82-84F. but lower you'll need to wait before initiating to get less than optimal results. It also means if your not fruiting at optimal temps (74-77F.) Then don't expect to get optimal flushes period. Now you notice I use the word optimum or it's variation quite often this is because thats where everything in life thrives! WORD GL guys, I know at least a few of you will walk away from this post having learned something and some of you will walk away thinking wow thats way more indepth than I ever want to go, thats perfectly fine just remember knowledge is power!!!
