Tyvek covered computer fan
    #3192950 - 09/28/04 09:05 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all.
If I were to rig a computer fan to my fruiting chamber, would I want it to suck air in, or blow air out? I plan on covering it with some tyvek to fiter.
Thanks!

A computer fan is not powerful enough to push air through Tyvek. Even one of the 120mm, 80cfm monsters. You will burn it up. They are not designed to push air through any sort of resistance - even a long tube is pushing it. Take a piece of Tyvek and try to blow through it. Sure, it lets air pass, but it is very difficult.

You're welcome to try, though.  You would not want the fan sucking air out of the chamber. That would create a vacuum inside and it will suck air in from anywhere it can - unfiltered air... unless you plan on covering the whole thing in Tyvek.

Tyvek is not going to allow enough airflow. The fan will burn out. Just put some tyvek over a hole or two with no fan. This will allow some air exchange. I would place the holes at the bottom of the chamber to allow co2 to escape.

Ah, thanks. Didn't think about that vacuum thing  I'll have to find some hepa filters I can cut up to use.

Use a battery charger power supply. Make sure its DC anywher from 6-12v. If you want it quiet run it at 9v.

Have you seen the doubble tub thread? You dont need a fan you can just have polyfill wads in 2" holes just above the casing layer and on the lid for passive ventilation and no fanning.
