He had a few cakes left over. Here's a 2 cake casing using straight vermiculite. He just covered with saran wrap. 6 days in the dark then gave it light. This Eq strain is working out nicely.

Those last two pics were left over DB compost?

Everythings going VERY nicely with yours Dan. It's a hell of an endorsement for the DB.

He started with 12 half pints. 8 were crumbled into the compost leaving 4 jars to dick around with. Next time I will label the post"cultivation pics" instead of "DB kit". I'm not here to endorse anything. I'm merely reporting facts. I see now it seems like a product endorsement and for that I apologize.

Day 18 - Not as plentiful as some of the pictures I've seen but I'm not complaining. Most of them are bigger than any mushroom I've ever seen.

Yesterday I ate 40 grams fresh weight of Eq's that grew on a straight vermiculite casing with brown rice flour as substrate. I also had 3 grams of serian rue. I hardly tripped. It's been at least 3 weeks since I've eaten any so I don't think its my tolerance. This sucks. I'm hoping the composted ones have more magic.

Dan->
Thanks for the post man.. I have a few questions...
Is that the DB 15gal kit?
You said you were using 1/2 pint jars.. what about the DB rye berry bag?
Also.. aren't you supposed to keep the innoculating compost in the dark until it is colonized?

And shit.. that is bad news about the non-potent mushrooms... do you think it is the strain ?

sorry to hammer you with all that.

I'm sure you will find the mushrooms from the compost are much more potent then rice grown. There is a lot more natural tryptamines in the compost to enhance psilocybin production. Rice is very low in tryptamine value.
Thanks for posting the pics... cant wait to see 2nd, 3rd flushes.

That is a 10 pound kit. He received 3 rye bags with the kit.
2 of the bags failed to germinate and smelled of contamination. The third bag seemed to colonize very slowly. The berries were just slightly fuzzy and there was no signs of healthy, rhizomorphic growth. He just didn't trust that 3rd bag of rye. And having no experience with rye he just didn't want to chance losing his compost to contam. He tried to case the rye with straight vermiculite, not knowing if that would even work. Well it didn't work, all he got was cobweb and green mold.
Yes you are suppose to keep it in the dark till fully colonized. A small area did not colonize all the way(and still isn't to this day) but initiating the light cycle when he did worked out fine.
Here's a pic of some of the first flush. Once it dries completely I will post the weight.

WOW, those look huge. I'm waiting for my 15 lb. kit tocome in( soooo excited) I've noticed alot of pics for these kits with the veils completely open.Does this not effect the compost that much for future flushes?

First flush yeilded 52 dry grams. Myself and a couple of others have sampled these. They do seem more potent than the rice grown cubies.

I'm back to report what happened with the DB kit. Sorry If I kept anyone hangin, I was busy moving into a new apartment and I didn't have a camera anymore.

So here it is in a nutshell... 8 days after harvesting the 1st flush, more pins appeared. Next thing I know there were hundreds if not thousands of pins covering every centimeter of cropping surface. It pinned too much and all but 6 of these aborted. So I had to plop the thing out of the box onto a table and attempt to pick every abort. Not at all a fun task but it had to be done. 3 days later another set of pins appeared growing about 6 good size shrooms and some very fat assed aborts. Picked those before full maturity and a day later another set of pins appeared. Giving about the same as the previous flush. Picked those and a day or two later another set of pins graced me. Anyways I lost track but as I was picking the 6th or 7th flush I spotted green mold. I decided to pick and examine those fruits to see if they looked or smelled funny. Then I ate them. Not to worry I had a great trip on shrooms some of us wouldn't dare eat because of the contamination present on the casing. All in all I am satisfied. It produced for almost 2 months with no contamination and the trips I had on just aborts were awesome. The first fruits were unbelievably huge. It probably yeilded around 5 oz. but I can't be accurate because I stopped adding weights. Any thoughts on why later flushes wanted to abort, Ryche? Maybe a strain that has been run on the compost already would perform better.
Excellent quantity and excellent potency for very little maintenance.
