Upcoming Presidential Debate

With the questions being "pre-asked", isn't this going to be more of a recital than a debate? Why not just let the respective speech writers face-off?

i think its even funnier that they are already setting bush up as a poor debater so if he does anything they can say he killed john kerry. republicans are masters of lying and dirty politics

I definitely agree they should just be turned free for impromptu Q&A. If they canidates can't handle that, how can I expect them to be a decent president. Quick, rational thinking and debate should be at least some part of a good president, regardless of their party affiliation.

Bush is definitely gonna walk as the victor. Kinda sad, but that's just the way of things I guess.

i wish we had the british system where the head of state has to go in front of the congress and get grilled every so often. man, that would be bush's biggest nightmare. anyone ever watch them grill blair? blair's a smart guy and was able to do fairly well with it, but bush would have imploded im sure.
i read that these "debates" are going to field questions from 'soft supporters'. so their getting questions from people that ALREADY SUPPORT THEM?? this shit is too crazy.

It seems really weak to me that they script it. The PM over here has to face prime ministers questions on a weekly basis that although structured can normally turn into a bit of a free for all. Im no fan of Blair, but he is quick witted in these kinds of situations. Im pretty sure Bush wouldnt last 5 minutes and would quickly be revealed as the moron many think he is.

Just heard an update this morning: there will be "little time" for cross-debate or the answering of other questions.
Yup, they will essentially just be reading a script.

If only they had Ralph Nader and Michael Badnarik join in the debate. Kerry and Bush would be publicly put to shame.

> join in the debate
This isn't a debate... well, they label it a debate, but it is closer to a commercial in which both candidates appear at the same time... I want to see how the yoyos running for president can handle tough questions on their own without the help of speech writers.
