I've read in the ovenbag tek to bake for 2-3 hours, but then i've also read to paturize for 1- 1and 15 min. which is the way to go. my intention is to find out if you can put oven bags of straw and manure in a cooler of 180 degree water, as oposed to puting in the oven it seams to me it would have less of a dring effect and serve the same purpose temp wise as long as i keep the temps up. i just need to know the times.

I like to pasturise for 1 to 2 hours. As long as its at least one hour, your good to go.
Prob with placing it into a cooler is keeping the temp steady for that amount of time, the oven is better, and far more stable for holding the temps right.

Does Kramer use 180 degree water for the entire 6-12 hours?
Also, does Kramer fill those turkey roaster pans all the way up with straw/maneur/etc and then submerge it in a bag under the 180 degree water?

if you read rodger rabits straw log tek on mycotopia, he describes a way of pasturising in rubbermaid tubs but it seems annoying casue you have to constantly have pots of boiling water to keep the tmeps up. but it dose work pretty well.
-------------------- We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. *note to any one reading my posts. any post pretaing to the cultivation of illegal psilocybe mushrooms are completely fictional. im a known pathological liar.

And it only takes an hour and a half! So a good rubbermaid or better yet cooler you won't have to add a whole lot of hot water to keep it above 140F. The range is 140F.-170F. I read up to 180F. even

everyone's temps and durations depend.
mostly, it's a matter of finding the level that works best for you.
IMO, 180+ is WAY too high for pasteurizing.
I keep it between 160>180 for about 45-60 minutes.
when pasteurizing straw, combining the bleach and lime teks makes the straw nearly contam proof.

Bah I forgot about them bleach and lime teks! I had red RR's thing using a rubbermaid tub and thats similar to what I did (read it long ago and didnt know who or where I read it from) but I didnt have a thermometer and it was like 1 in the morning and I just wanted the straw cleaned up. I ended up throwing away the other 3/4's of a bail and just kept two laundry bags full. Filled up my tub in tub incubator (with it plugged in and turned up a bit) and then a mixture of boiling and hot tap water to get the right temps (guessing and aiming for 180) and left for an hour and a half with a weight and blanket on it. I dont know if it worked but I got a number of casings out of it so we shall see..was mixed up 2 days ago and nothing noticable yet but not expected..
I'm much more comfortable with my PC though then all this pasturizing hootinanny. At least until I get a nice big place.
