Here are two pics of some Panaeolus tropicalis on sterilised dung/straw/vermiculite. This mixture was sterilised in autoclavable spawnbags and inoculated with rye grain spawn. After it had fully colonised it was cased with peat/vermic/lime mixture.
This is such a fast species......Mushrooms grown from pins to full size within 5 days!

Looking good una, what is the cap size?
I'm thinking of making one jar 720 ml rye for the pan trop! This weekend it's gonna be innoculated, how many one litre boxes can be made from one jar rye? 3?
Peace and good luck with your new buisness!!!

goregous. just wonderful :)
i know that with cubensis, potency is lost after the veil breaks. paneolus mushrooms never have a veil. whats the scoop on those? i see their pretty concave on top :) thats way ripe man. and kudos muchos for growing specimines that look like the wild ones. ive seen alot of monstorously tall skinny ones, nice to see some chubby looking stout ones there :) looks just like some large wild pan subbs i find but without the heavey spore deposit. very nice :)

Great job!! Welcome to the club!
Have you attempted to print any? They can be alittle tricky. Most prints will be light(that I have seen). You can get good dark prints from these just like the cubes but it is all in the timing. You have to look very closely to the underside, you will see when they are hanging heavy with spores. If you see any sign of sporres on the stems they are ready(or possibaly past time) to print.
Again, Nice work!!

Whel just wanted 2 ask something.
Like posted you can also grow them on gras seed. Because of the first time we did use gras seed we thought it would take up more water. I did take up less than expected so now I'm using it in a ratio of dung/verm : gras seed = 1:0.65
Will this cause less yield?

Re: Pan Trop on rye? [re: paddoholland]
We did it like this:
* Presoak the grass seed for one night in water.
* Mix 2 parts of dried dung with one part of vermiculite
* Add water to the dung/vermic mixture until fully wet but not soggy.
* Mix equal parts of soaked grass seed and dung/vermic mxiture.
* Sterile the dung/vermic/grass seed mixture for 2 hours in autoclave bags.
* Let the bags cool in the laminar flow cabinet.
* Inoculate the bags with 300 ml of colonised rye grain spawn.
* Seal the bags with an impulse sealer.
* Shake the bags every 3-4 days.
* After 10 days the mixture is completely colonised and the bags are cut open.
* The mixture is filled into 1 liter trays and cased with 1 cm of peat/lime/vermic/ mixture.
* The trays are put in darkness to let the mycelium grow through the casing soil (3-4 days)
* The trays are put in a clear plastic bin to induce fruiting. They are watered daily.
* After 5 days pins formed and these developed into mature mushrooms in 6 days.
Beware that pressure cooking the dung mixture will seriuously make your kitchen smell like a farm!!!

any advice or links to teks on growing these babies? I'm really worried, I don't have autoclave bags, and never used rye grains.

Time to buy some, eh? Considering the strain I'd say so.
Happy to see info about timing the prints.

I know, I've already printed this out.
Because you only talk about parts, we had to guess the weight with water. Next time we use more gras seed. But we will report with recipe when we have (or don't have) succes with the Pan Trop. We innoculated a jar with agar saturday, bags with dung/verm./gras seed have been pc'ed. The farm smell was not as bad as we thought!
