France seeking to put pullout on agenda Brian Knowlton/IHT IHT Tuesday, September 28, 2004
Paris also wants 'all forces in Iraq' at proposed talks ? WASHINGTON France said Monday that it would take part in a proposed international conference on Iraq only if the agenda included a possible U.S. troop withdrawal, thus complicating the planning for a meeting that has drawn mixed reactions.
Paris also wants representatives of Iraq's insurgent groups to be invited to a conference in October or November, a call that would seem difficult for the Bush administration to accept.

I tell you folks, you just can't make stuff like this up.
France is now surrendering in a war in which it didn't fight. You gotta give them credit -- not every country can manage something like that.

I'm not a big fan of the french government, but I'm getting pretty sick of every slack jawed neocon rambling about how easily they surrender, blah blah, surrender monkeys blah blah. What most people forget is that france was basically the front line in both world wars and was devastated by the advancing armies.
Molly Ivins has an excellent piece written about it. Don't be a gaping ass of limbaughian syndication. Think for yourselves.

Actually, I think inviting representatives from Iraq's insurgents is a good idea. They're either going to spout rhetoric, and make fools of themselves, or they're going to attempt to convey a rational argument. Even though they will likely fail, it might teach them something about using diplomacy and political maneuvering to obtain their goals.

They sure as hell won't learn it from the Bush administration. Well except the political maneuvering bit. Crap they might rig their elections too!

France was lambasted for NOT putting up a stronger resistance when being occupied and Iraq is being lambasted for putting up a decent resistance against an occupying force. No irony there.

I'll give props to the French for showing the insane balls they have over the past few years. And for the good food and wine.
But they fall short on everything else.

France is now surrendering in a war in which it didn't fight
Or trying to stop a catastrophic and illegal occupation.
Incidentally, who do you believe you are "at war" with?

people also seem to disregard that french are the culture who conquered most of europe 200 years ago.

I think its insane to ask the 'enemy' to join you for peace talks, you know they will make outlandish demands like "stop shooting us"

Hating the french is like wearing sunglasses, they make you look like a douchebag, but for some reason they're always in style.

How are france surrendering if there is no war ? I thought the war was over, and we are just there to support the puppet government we placed in charge.
Are ways of seeking peace always classed as surrendering in you mind?

Hah are you serious? How retarded can you get. Saudi terrorists bomb the world trade centers, lets blame France!
Oh and, yes I had heard about the whole freedom fries thing before, just not heard of it actually being applied that much.

I didnt think it was posssible, but that whole episode looks even stupider as the war gets worse and worse and it becomes clear to anyone that america was completely wrong in that disagreement.
