I found this sucker in the woods right near where I threw a bag of contam'd Huatula cakes...it would be really nice if this sucker was magic but I really don't think so, but I would still like to eat it if I can! Btw geographic location is northeastern US.

dont do it man! with red gills... I highly doubt its magic. Besides there are much better ways of finding out besides eating it. Definately take a spore print, and definately find out what kinds of shrooms grow in ur area. I live in Ohio, and I would know by seeing that, that it isnt magic because I know what kinds grow in my state and what they look like. The first step is to know what ur looking for =D

But if i just ate a small chunk of it, worst comes to worst I would just get a little sick right? I used to eat all kinds of outdoor shrooms up in NY. It smells great, like a fresh shroom bought at the store.

this is way off topic, but i'm having a great time reading the against school link...which i clicked on because i thought it might be related to randomly eating small pieces of mushrooms...which sounds unschooled to me. lol. great article. i'll pass it on.

looks to be an Agaricus of some sort, and I DONT recommend eating it until you give a better description and we can ID it for you...
spore print?
what was it growing on?
any particular smell?
does it stain when you cut the stem?

I kinda waited too late to get a decent print to take a pic of but I did get a small print that is like a mahogany type of color.
Was growin in a small wooded hillside on an all dirt embankment
No particular smells, just smells like a very fresh and yummy shroom!
Cut the stem and no staining or bleeding

Just because they smell and look good, does not mean they are so. You can seriously poison yourself with this mentality. They resemble a Lepiota to me. Does the mushroom bruise any color? For your own safety, do not eat any more of this mushroom, unless it is id'ed as an edible.

Looks like a exporter. Not saying that it is, but judging from the cap. Though the gills arents pale enough for me to say its edible. I give the old thumbs down to that one.
