Shroomery forums...

:thumbdown:Man... I have been a member to many many forums over the years. I recently made my first post in these forums about identifying a shroom and the only posts that I recieved were total asshole attitude posts... any other forums people try to HELP, these forums it seems like people try to criticize. Thanks for the crappy experience

It's because they care too much about the rules of the forum, BUT it DOES help when someone provides information required by the forum rules when searching for an ID and it makes it much easier. If I knew how to ID from a picture I'd do it, but I don't.

It sounds like you just asked the wrong questions without reading the rules.  Give some other forums (like the community forums) a chance before deciding that we're all assholes.  This is personally the finest board I have ever been a part of. :smile:

I have been a member on all types of forums... paintball forums, car audio forums, car forums, website designing forums, computer game forums, bodybuilding forums, hockey forums.

I've never had such a bad experience

Your loss, IMO. This board is HUGE with all types of people here. I wouldn't let one bad experience with a inconsequential few drive you away.

That was a pretty harsh response, not appropriate.

However I would like to explain why the hunting forum is so strict. We have a numerous amount of posts from people who know next to nothing about hunting asking questions so they can get a 'good idea' before they rush out to the cow fields to get mushrooms.

The problem is this hobby can be deadly, and what the more experienced hunters fear most is people who seemingly don't get this very important point.

The reason they want specific descriptions is for your safety and to also make you truly think about what you are doing. You can kill yourself if you are not careful, and in your post it seems you would be in the catagory of total novice when it comes to mushroom hunting.

If you choose to base this first experience as how this website is then that is unfortunate. One post does not make a website.

Hmm I recently started posting hear, being new to mushroom hunting, and I've found all the people very friendly and helpful.

Strangely, I've noticed that lots of smart people respond with well thought out answers when you ask questions that are not a waste of their time. If your question shows you have done your homework, people are very considerate and will help you if they can. (Locus and mjshroomer, among others, have both posted well thought out answers to questions from me)

If (as seems to be the case with you) your question shows you to be an idiot who is looking for a shortcut so they don't have to do the homework, you will be dealt with rudely. But it might be considered rude to waste the time of skilled people with questions that show you haven't even looked at the great resources people like mjshroomer have made. It is you who were rude, not those that responded to you. As others have said, you could easily die this way.

I guess in a way you are right. This forum is not nice to those who approach topics like hunting with no education and apparently no effort to understand anything about it. But that reflex poorly on you, not the members of this board.

It's interesting to note that it would be impossible to answer your question without putting your own life in danger. Even though I am not an expert, I have made enough of an effort to educate myself to realize this.
