Here is my book collection, 5 years in the making:

Started with the DK one and moved on to simon and schusters. I saw Stamets book in a local bookstore and couldnt resist getting it. Also had a copy of Arora's book (which is one of the best) but i traded it for the mushrooms of the northeast, since thats where i am.

I reccomend getting Mushrooms Demystified probibly because I hear that it is the most accurate.

array,

that's a nice photograph. i am looking on half.com because it's cheapest and there are very many books! i wonder if half of them are worth the read because I LOVE TO READ ABOUT MUSHROOOOMS.

peace out thanks for the photo i like that northeast one, it would be cool cuz i'm in the southeast

peace

look on ebay as well.. they are dirt cheap.. and if you find a fellow hunter their intent is to put their book in your hands

The mushrooms of northeastern north america is my favorite. That book is like an encyclopedia! It goes into more details by far than any book ive ever looked at. It has 584 pages, tons of keys to species and genus, covers 1500 species and has 650 color photos. I just got it this week.

Im not sure if it would be good for you to get cause it only covers the north but ive seen a florida mushroom book somewhere.

Actually there are many errors in Arora's thick guide. One major one is the colored photograph of Psilocybe cyanescens which is actually a photo of Psilocybe cyanofibrillosa. I and many others over the years have informed both David and Paul Stamets who took the photo of the error but the publishers say it is too expensive to change the page to correct the error.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of any of the actual errors in any of Lincoff's books? I think i heard someone in this forum talking about it a couple times but they didnt mention anything specific.

Oh, yea and I think i meant to say that Arora's was the most accurate of the books i have.

Mushrooms Demystified by Arora is simply amazing.

You will be happy with it for years. I personally use this book 99% of the time. It covers so many species and so many interesting facts and pictures.

We ALL know about the photographic error in the book. The description is right about cyanescens. It is a very well put together book.

well since i just started a month ago, i only have one. its the "national audubons field guide to mushrooms". that jacket cover keeps falling off.... i managed to find it at a b'daltons of all places. i asked for books on mushrooms, the lady said they didnt have any...i went back to the nature section and saw it there as big as life. =D

i like it as a field guide , but what could you reccomend for late night reading? something on history, mythology or mushrooms in culture...anyone?

i havent seen a fla mushroom book yet, but walden books will be happy to print you out a huge list of every mushroom book they have. some as cheap as 5 bucks. for right now , i'm still keeping it real cheap. i bought the audubon one as a nescessary "carry with me always" book and i try to get the rest of my information off the net and take it all with a grain of salt.

i'll keep an eye out for fla mushroom books and get back to you if someone else doesnt first. =D
