question about caerulipes.
    #3183755 - 09/26/04 08:04 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

On my first ever mushroom hunt ever about a month and a half ago I found what I am 95% sure were psyclocybe caerulipes, about 30 them. I know they are rare but i'm confident they were them. The problem was that they were infested with larvae of some kind so i ended up throwing them out (i kick myself everyday for that). So I would go back to the spot from time to time to see if they came back, however we have had very little rain since then. Today i found 2 old half dry half fresh specimens about 2 inches in diameter each. I am curious about the potency of them in this state. They now have a very sour/bitter smell to them when before they were very musty. Is this normal? I am also wondering if the caerulipes will come back after the next rainfall or next year? Any response will make me happy and I'm sorry you had to read through all this crap. Thank you

If it were up to me, I wouldn't eat them. There's a high chance that you can get food poisoning from eating half dry/rotting mushrooms.

Just keep checking the patch after rain and find some fresh specimens.

I had quite a bit of gas and I feel as though I'm going to have the green apple splatters later today. I took some pepto bismol. Other than that I just got a light buzz.

Thanks for the replies.

June, July and August and sometimes into September but rarer in this month. They are a summer shroom fruiting in Ohio and Michigan around June-August. Rarer after that. Also in West virginia.

allegedly suppose to grow between Florida to maine?

Questionable. Mot reported colelctions int he literature are from Michigan and Ohio.

It is now past their seson. The stems would be opure white and an oracheous caramel to straw-colored cap in drying with extreme blure cruising to the stem in drying after handling.
