Too wet can do it, but that looks like black pin mold. Does it look like fine coffee grounds? Anyway, I no longer bother with a bottom layer, it promotes contams and is redundant. Now you know. Sorry, dude.

I`ve eaten fruits off casings with that shit, no problems. It`s just not that aggressive, more of a pain in the ass than anything. Tough to get rid of too. Don`t bother taking any sporeprints. Your fruit can be as healthy as they come but the spores will carry that crap.
