which way is up??
    #318521 -

Ok so I've read that when you birth the jars and put them in the terriaum you should put them verm side down (what i consider upside down). I have also read to put them verm side up ?! So which is it? Has any one tried both? Which produced better results? I have one cake that was birthed and put verm side up- (it was also colonizing this way) and the little shroo first start to grow down and then turn up towards the light. So do you always want to put the cakes the terraium the same way they were colonizing or should you turn them upside down?

Any other suggestions?

yeah bro im havin the same problem i was told both ways so i first put them verm side down, but unfortunately i was getting no pinning at all, actually still no pinning =*( i flipped a few of them after 2 weeks of being verm side down, and one had a few pins but those pins havent done shit, and the others that i flipped, nuthin either. i dunno whats gopin on at all, and im not sure if i just confused the shit outta my cakes or what but its lookin like i might have to start over. i dunno just thought i d add my experience. i think next time im puttin em all verm side up. good luck with urs

ok well this is what I am going to do:
I have a couple of cakes just about ready to birth. I will put some upside down and some right side up. Then we will see which ones come up superior !!!
I think that once you have them one way you should keep them that way so they aren't confused which way is up.
Hopefully I will be able to report soon :)
The rest I am gonna case!

it doesnt really but out of habit ive always set them with verm side up. my own reason is a thin verm layer is already there and i have noticed that my cakes tend to dry a little slower this way.

-add vermicultie on top of lids (bottom),
-lids work well to hold in verm. as do plastic PB lids,
-stick jars right side up (verm. side up) on top of this vermiculite

-double ended casing tek-

not that it makes much difference which verm layer to add, it is just harder to add to the top
cuz it falls off...
