A couple of pics for you to check out...
    #3183220 - 09/26/04 06:39 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Hello all, first time posting and I figured I'd post a couple of pics I took while hiking in the woods today. Unfortunately when I took these pics I wasn't thinking about posting here on the forums so I can't give you a whole lot of info about them. They were basically growing in E. Massachusetts growing from rotting wood. Next time I will make sure I can give a more in depth description. I know their not magic mushrooms but any clues as to what type they may be would be appreciated. Take care. P.S. also first time posting pics so I hope I get it right.

the dark ones in the first pic might be psathyrellas or mycenas. the white ones in the upper left might be mycenas or coprinus, those are just wild guesses, I can't really tell and I'm not too familiar with mushrooms from your area. dunno about the bottom pic.

Spore prints would go a long way toward making a good guess as to genus.

In the first photo I'll guess that the pale ones are Marasmius (or one of the close satellite genera) and the dark ones are Mycenas.

In the second photo it suggests Tricholoma to me.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks greatly for your responses. I didn't go out actually looking for mushroom, I went to videotape deer and since I didn't see any (heard lots though) I figured I would take pictures of some shrooms. I was amazed that they were everywhere that I looks (and so many different types!) I'm going to be making a trip sometime this week with just mushrooms in mind (bowhunting season is 2 weeks away so that's going to be tough :-)) I'll get some spore prints as well as make sure I get all the required info and maybe that will help out. I would like to find some Gymnopilus spectabilis (What's the trip like with these?). I'm going to do some more research on them so I can hopefully be able to identify them. BTW, I haven't eaten a shroom in about 15 years so I look forward to a long awaited trip. Don't worry though, I won't be eating anything unless 100% sure of identity. Thanks again all.

the dark ones in the first pic look like coprinus to me.
