How to make your own flavoured rice the lazy way
    #3183172 - 09/26/04 06:20 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

How to jazz up some rice in one easy step.

Better rice for lazy people...

Just add any packaged soup mix into the water that you cook your rice in. The more you put in, the stronger...so you dont want to overdo it.

I recoment the Knor varieties of soups, try to avoid the "cream of.." types since they have thickeners in it that will make the rice impossible to cook decently in the water.

Some good flavours are out there with lots of little bits of vegtables and so on, stay away from the onion soup mix, and other very salty kinds of soup mix, and stay towards the hearty types with vegtables and so on in the lable...

I agree about adding soups, but I think cambell french onion is the best one out there.  It makes the rice a nice brown color and gives it a great onion flavor

Maybe I just haven't tried enough.

Fry up a bunch of white onion's in butter until the edges start turning brown, then add the rice and let it get warm and coated with the butter.  Add your favorite broth mix( I like cambells chicken broth w/ herb and garlic ) and follow the directions on the package the rice comes in.

Browning the onions gives it a roasted flavor.

Check this crap out.. instead of boiling your rice in just water, add a cube of chicken broth crap, or use a can of chicken broth for a substitute for just plain ole' water.. trust me.. it works wonders..especially in spanish rice.

Sammy :crazy2:

Yep good call, whenever I make rice I always add a chicken bouillon cube to the water. If you like it stronger add two, but I prefer just a hint of flavor unless Im drunk.
