My "Keepers Brew"

In my overpriced kit from the keeper came 2 jars with a small baggie of some sort of powder in it. I was to mix the powder with spring water and do a spore drop into it. I did this with 1 of the jars and tested it on 2 PF tek style jars. I cannot believe the rapid growth!! I saw the first signs of myceleum growing after 12 or 15 hours! now 5 days later the jars are almost fully colonised! Does anyone know what the powder I mixed with the spring water might have been?

I have asked them what it is and they told me it was "The Keepers Secret" They say that the 1 jar is then capable of innoculating up to 1000 BFR jars! That is the 1 thing that they have told me that I do believe, I innocculated 1 substrate jar with just 1 drop in each of the 4 holes and it is growing fine! Not quite as fast as the ones that have 1.5 cc's injected into them, but still growing faster than jars innocculated with plain spore solution!

I think the secret to this is, because of the 1 drop, faster mycellium growth? then again this goes against all theorys of "more spores, faster growth!" but I don't think that the powder was anything special IMO.

The powder was something special, it was a nutrient of some kind but only the Keeper knows exactly what. My guess? Malt extract. Often powdered and commonly used for liquid cultures or agar (MEA, malt extract agar, you made the same, or similar, but with no agar for solidifying). Karo tek is the same thing, honey tek, dextrose, any kind of sugar basically. It causes the spores to germinate in the water. Growth will be very quick (about a wekk instead of 2 if from spores) and you never need to run out. Just get some Karo (light corn syrup at the grocery store) and mix that in with some water (a teasppon per 100ml) sterilize it (PC for 15 minutes at 15psi), fill a syringe (sterilized) with the clean water and inject into the myc stuff you made then suck up how much you put in. Replace what you put in with karo water and the myc will keep growing and you just keep doing that.
Please don't order from the keeper anymore, he's a ripoff artist. You probably got about 10 dollars worth of stuff for every hundred you spend with him.

I just found the shroomery yesterday. Spent the WHOLE day today reading TEK's and FAQ's. This is a waaaaaay better place to get information than I dreamed was available! I'm sure I will be ordering some spores as soon as I can figure out a casing method. I am leaning towards Rye. Any input of what route I might want to explore for maximum yield? Happy trails!

you can make your own... you wont find it very cheaply anywhere but by buying agar agar and malt extract and combining them in proportions you will have it much cheaper...
look here for recipes and here for more information http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/3315
