I wouldn't really suggest it, a top casing layer can help protect from contams since it's non-nutritive. Kind of a buffer zone. It will also provide more moisture for the substrate to use, other than that im not sure how detrimental it would be.

Its not a bad idea, so far i prefer to use a 50/50 coir and verm casing. Works very well. Why is it you dont want to put a casing layer on it???

Well i guess it depends on what kind of substrate your using. Poo might be a little different and more resistant to contams because the pasteurization process keeps beneficial bacteria in the substrate and helps fight off contams.

You want to use a csing layer. Not only will it be iffy not using one becuase you might get contams but you will also pick away all the substrate when you harvest like you rip away all the casing layer, that's what its for. Also without the moisture your shroomies aren't gonna be so big. Poo holds alot of moisture itself so not so bad and can fruit without a casing (plus the bacteria in it that help fight off contams) but its still better to have one, even with poo.
