Jars feel cool, but temp is ~84deg.

Im using a pretty cheap heat fan...keeps temps at around 84 but my jars feel cool to the touch. Whats up with this? would that mean the subst is cool as well? Sounds like a dumb question but there is no way of me measuring the temps inside the jars.Thanks :smile:

My incubation setup is 4 jars on the floor of my closet with sheets overtop with a heat fan about a foot n a half away blowing indirectly at the jars. (but in that lil corner of the closet)

If you can find an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer, you can stick the probe right against the jar to give you a better measure of jar temperatures.

The jars should equalize to roughly air temperature, though. If your thermometer is accurate, I wouldn't worry about it.

The idea of blowing a fan over the jars concerns me, though. Isn't that going to make them lose their moisture content more quickly?

Maybe it doesen't really matter. I have my jars in a box on a bookshelf with a 15W fluorescent light on a timer under it for heat. My thermal probe is hanging in the air in the middle of the box. Temperatures stay between 80 and 86?F, and my jars do indeed feel warm to the touch.

84 is fairly cool...just slightly warm..I wouldnt worry if your getting good growth.

Body temp is 98.6 so naturally the jars will feel cooler :wink:
