Good advice as always Gumby. Anyway, if the grass is long you got to get down in it. No way around that one. Libs are small. With the sun we've had they should be easier to spot.

It might take a few more weeks before they start showing up. I think the majority of our Lib reports so far have been from Europe.

Been having a look in a few cow and sheep fields this week and have found nothing as yet....i found two in my garden in august oddly enough. In these fields there are lots of other types of mushrooms but no libs....should they be making an appearence soon?

They are translucent-striate when moist sometimes. (Appearing lined from the cap being translucent, showing the gills beneath.)

Hello hello. I'm from Newfoundland as well Stipe and silt_strider. Where do you guys live? I'm up in St. John's and I'm gonna go on a hunt this weekend probally. I've seen a few libs in my yard and in a soccer field but nothing major. Where do you guys usually look?

I must say, up in Northern British Columbia right now, and at this time of the year every year, the mushrooms are popping out everywhere. Though this year is the only year that i have found any liberty caps in my area.

I'm heading out to Cape Breton for a bit of picking in a week or so with a vanload of friends. I've never been picking before but some of the other people in the group have, and we've got a spot picked out. Apparently the liberty caps there are 'pinkish', or so I was told. Anyways, we're making a weekend of it, so it should be fun. Would anyone have an idea of the ideal time to head out to Cape Breton (the northern bit of Nova Scotia) for liberty caps?
